Whiskey Beach - Nora Roberts

Suspected of his wife’s murder, Eli loses everything he had ever been or done. His life turns upside down as he loses his friends, livelihood, his identity and goes into a turmoil of grief. Claire had never been a good wife to him, and when he finds out that she has been cheating on him all along, he shatters into pieces and regrets his marriage to her. The day he gets to know about his conniving, deceiving and cheating wife, they both get into a big public fight. Eli goes to his house in the evening to get his family heirlooms back and as he steps out he watches in utter belief his wife cold on the ground in a pool of blood. The murder of Claire destroys whatever he had ever owned and makes him the biggest suspect in the murder. But, as his involvement could not be proved he is let off the radar but till then everything had come to an end.

Trying to hold on to life, and fighting insomnia day in and day out. His life takes a turn when he has to go to Whiskey Beach because of a terrible incident that happens to her grandmother. As there is no one to look after the Landon House, he decides to go and live there as long as his grandma is in recovery mode. Hopeless with his existence and just breathing, Eli is in for a surprise planted by his grandma. She makes Abra, her housekeeper/yoga instructor to take care of Eli in her absence. Abra also struggling with a terrifying past finds solace with Eli’s company. As both of them start knowing each other, Eli finds himself falling for her and a change in him. Only as the pain starts to subside for both of them, a curse looms upon their happiness. There is someone out there, who wants the Landon family dead, especially Eli and wants the ever famous Esmerelda's Dowry known to be lost forever. But is it really?

The story unfolds the loss of oneself, horrifying spouses, torment, grief, hidden treasures and dark family secrets but also about the power of love, compassion, and the light in the end of the tunnel. Abra Walsh leaves her past behind and settles in Whiskey Beach to start a brand new life, spreading warmth and compassion to anyone and everyone she meets. Her biggest project of all time becomes Eli Landon, but will this new start also have a happily ever after?

As the stranger in the night plans to take over Whiskey House and take away everything Eli got after a long period of time, will he let it flow out of his hands all over again? This fiction by Nora Roberts is chilling and enthusiastic but also becomes a little stretchy and uninteresting at some parts. Overall it is a pleasant read. I give it a 6/10.
